Have you heard about FARE’s Teal Pumpkin Project™? With Halloween right around the corner I wanted to share some information with you about this awesome campaign.
Halloween can be a particularly stressful time for parents who have little ones with food allergies. I know because I used to be a food allergy mom. Both my kids had food allergies. My son was allergic to eggs and my daughter is allergic to eggs and peanuts. Both were life threatening (we carried EPI-pens wherever we go) but the peanut allergy was the most serious as my daughter could ingest, touch or even be around anything with peanuts in it. Thankfully, both my children grew out of their food allergies this year. However, it's not common that this happens and lots of kiddos deal with food allergies for their whole life. This can make Halloween very difficult as it prohibits them from most of the candy that gets passed out.
FARE’s Teal Pumpkin Project™ is a worldwide movement to create a safer, happier Halloween for kids. It raises awareness of food allergies and promotes inclusion of all trick-or-treaters. With food allergies being so predominant these days this is important stuff! FARE’s Teal Pumpkin Project™ encourages households to offer non-food treats so that trick-or-treaters that need to avoid candy have another option. You can show that you are participating by displaying a teal pumpkin in front of your home. You can find them at Target, on Amazon or you can even spray paint your own real pumpkin!
You can find more information at tealpumpkinproject.org. Join the movement and pledge to participate! The kids will be happy and the parents of kids with food allergies will be relieved to know that their kids are safe to trick-or-treat at your house.
